New Technology For Phones

In the last few years it seems that phones have come a very long way from their original status of simply making and receiving phone calls. Nowadays phones are phones but there also personal assistants, tablet PCs, remote controls, etc. The great leaps in technology that have allowed this to take place have not only revolutionized the telephone market but I've also revolutionized how we use technology as a civilization. It was not all that long ago that we're all using pay phones to make our personal phone calls, and it was really only around a century ago that we were able to make phone calls at all. The advancement in computer technology that allowed us to go from a scratchy unreliable phone call, to being able to make it crystal clear phone call without wires, while simultaneously being able to surf the Internet, took place in roughly a little more than a single long lifespan. This amazing advancement technology truly shows human achievement at its best.

The telephone as we roughly know it today was invented in the later part of the 19th century. The principle use of the telephone remained unchanged for roughly 100 years when cell phones began at the marketplace, and even then the phone still functioned as a phone exclusively. Until the last few years phone service the simple purpose of allowing you to verbally communicate with another person who is not in your immediate presence. While this purpose was undoubtedly an important step forward in technology, what we've been able to accomplish and all are the last few years is something like the equivalent of comparing an old canvas and wood biplane to a space shuttle.

With the modern advent of the so called "smart phones" we now have the capability to do a seemingly infinite number of tasks with the use of a single hand held device. Thanks to advancement and technology we can now surf the Internet, play video games, send and receive videos, and even turn off of our home lights from another state. Who can deny that this really is a miraculous advancement in technology? All of this leaves our imaginations to make up the future. We're only in the earliest stages of the smart phone and we're all left to wonder at what the future holds in terms of the advancement of this technology. One thing is for sure, what seems impossible today will likely be possible, and even routine tomorrow.

Interesting Ways to Use Your Computer For Education

Most everyone has a computer, or at least access to a computer, these days but there are certain ways to utilize your computer that you may not have thought about previously. Computers offer their users so many different experiences that sometimes you can get so caught up in certain aspects of computing that you forget about other areas that might be of interest to you. For example you might be caught up with browsing the Internet or playing video games but neglect some other areas of functionality. Computers can be a great tool for you to utilize on a day to day basis and hopefully you can find some more uses that will be good for you.

While most of us use our computers to browse the Internet, check our Email, and browse social networking sites, many of us neglect some of the educational benefits of our computers. One really great way to use your computer is as an educational tool. If you have an MP3 player you can really begin to utilize your computer as a learning tool. Of course you can always use online services to purchase audio books to download onto your mp3 player, but did you know that many libraries and universities now offer free audio book downloads? That's right; many local libraries now offer audio book downloads, which will allow you to use your computer as a free learning tool. Typically only need to do is go online, find your local library and find out if they offer this type of program. From there it's typically as simple as entering your library card information and downloading a file player and your audio book files.

Another great way to use your computer or smart phone for educational purposes mainly applies to students but could also apply to people in the business world. If you've ever had something that you needed to study but didn't have the time to sit down and read than you could try this tip. If you have what you need to study in text format on your computer then you can e-mail it to yourself and download it onto your smart phone. From there you will need to find an application that does text to voice. There are many applications like this out there and most are free. Simply take your downloaded information and entered into your text to speech application. You can then study as if you are listening to an audio book! There are undoubtedly many more ways to use your computer for educational purposes but these are two of my favorites.

Using Your Computer to Advance Your Education By Brenda Williams Platinum Quality Author

Technology really has provided for some great advancement in our day to day lives. It seems like there never existed a time where you couldn't pick up your cell phone to not only get in touch with loved ones and business associates, but also to check the weather in your hometown and across the globe among other amazing features. Of course computers are frequently the butt of jokes that associate them with base tasks. When most people speak of the Internet I think that there's a tendency for people to believe that it's still serves a massive function as essentially nothing more than a pornographic shop, or warehouse for disturbing images that were always considered to be taboo. While this still is the case to some extent it's also true that computers are being utilized more than ever for business and personal growth functioned, and one great example of this is the use of computers to complete college degrees.

Even though we can safely say that the Internet is still in its infancy that is already being used to make the education process and easier one. 10 years ago if you needed to finish your degree and you worked the typical 40 hour job, your only choice to finish our education would be to take night classes periodically. Of course this didn't fit into everyone's schedule and certain people needed to find an alternative method to complete their degree. This is where computers and the Internet came in and really shook things up. And only a few short years you can literally complete your college degree without ever having to step foot, more or less, into an actual live classroom. The great thing is that this wasn't only being offered by low level colleges and universities, but rather it seems that even the biggest names in education have seen the value of technology and online degrees.

There are many programs that colleges and universities use to allow other students the ability to complete their degrees. The interface and interaction are different, of course, on many of these software programs, but the point remains that they be user friendly and allow people the chance to study and submit work online. Online degrees are still a new concept that advances in technology used in online classrooms is growing daily, and I suspect that the online classroom will more relaxed take the place of the actual classroom in short order.

Getting the Most For Your Money With Your Computer

Computers are an exceptional tool that can help us with our day to day activities, but computers can also be very expensive as can their individual software components. If you have a computer and you find that you need certain software components to really get the most functionality thing you'll be happy to know that more often than not there is a free option available for you to take advantage of in terms of getting the software that you want.

There is of course file sharing which is one way to get basically any type of software that you might need for free, but ultimately file sharing is a pretty unethical way of getting the software that you need. The good news is that you typically can get the software that you need without having to resort to unethical or even illegal activity. Let's say for instance that you need a photo editing software program to do some high end adjustments on photographs. You might think that the expensive name brand photo editing software is your only option, but indeed there are other options available to you. All you need to do is go to your favorite search engine and enter "free photo editing software" which should yield several free options for photo editing software.

If you're looking for something other than photo editing software, say for instance spreadsheet or text entry software, then again doing a simple search on your favorite search engine should yield several options, but there is one that should come up first and will ultimately be the best option. In fact the free option in my opinion is even better than the paid software, so even if you have the expensive software and you might want to check out the free option anyway. It's not just spreadsheet programs and photo editing programs that are available either, basically if your mind can imagine it it's out there and it's free all you have to do is look. That's the great thing about technology and the free marketplace!

So if you do need some software you might want to consider looking online before you buy because you never know what might come up. If the possibility exists for you to save a few hundred dollars why not look for the free version before you commit to the paid one? Of course you can't do this for everything, but it's certainly worth looking for most programs.

3D Optical Storage

Conventional optical data storage (CD's/DVD's) store data in two dimensions, recording reflective marks on a storage medium (a disk). These disks could potentially hold multiple layers of recording medium to increase storage capacity, but an issue arises in that as you go multiple layers deep, layers closer to the reading mechanism (a laser,) interfere with the reading process and create noise. 3D storage methods circumvent this problem by using multi-planar storage methods to allow the laser to address only the specified unit of data storage. This allows for an immense amount of potential storage - theoretically, petabytes of data could be stored using this method. Additionally, this method of storage is not limited to disks - one could potentially store data in 3D objects, like spheres or cubes. The main requirement for 3D storage is that the medium can undergo chemical changes when exposed to light in order to allow writing and reading; if these changes can be reversed, unlimited rewriting of the data is possible.

Unfortunately, development of 3D storage has been slow due to lack of serious financial backing. Though the field appears lucrative, the capital required to get to a level of development where the method would be financially self-supporting is viewed as cost-ineffective. Though there are companies investing in this technology, development continues to move slowly. Some companies have made claims in the past that they would have marketable 3D solutions by 2010, though they have failed to make good on their claims. Perhaps the future will see more focused research done on 3D storage as people seek greater amounts of storage space. Only time will tell.

The New Sony 3D LED HDTV is Out

Introducing the Sony XBR52HX909 this is the Sony version of 3D LED HDTV. This year has brought about a transformation of HD LED 3D TVs and all of the manufacturers are scrambling to get in on the game. Sony has now brought their version of 3D LED HDTV up to standard. Because this TV is so new there are not a lot of reviews out, but if you are a Sony fan you will probably like it.

This TV comes with something called 3D1 which means it is 3D compatible. Before the flat Plasma and LED TVs became popular, there used to be a high end picture tube TV that had a black picture tube, which was supposed to get the blackest of blacks. Well the quality of this TV surpasses that with the blackest of blacks and the whitest of whites. What this means is a clear brilliant picture quality in full HD 1080p, which is the highest resolution currently possible. It also features the BRAVIA engine, which Sony fans know delivers an amazing viewing experience.

Another cool feature is Internet video. Just think instantly streaming movies and other media from the Internet. Sure it's been possible to stream from the Internet for a long time, but the difficulty of set-up and equipment cost used to be prohibitive. With this TV everything is built in and set up for you. You can also connect to current digital media using a Wi-Fi adapter or the built in USB port. As you can see media possibilities are endless with this awesome TV.

Do you have a hard drive media player or a PS3 this Sony 3D HD LED TV is also DLNA compatible so you can get streaming media from any other DLNA device even your PC. Have you ever wondered what your vacation photos would look like in 3D? After all that was how they looked when you took them. Just get out your trusty remote control 7 and with a click of a button your 2D media will become 3D.

A great way to enjoy all of the latest in Blu-ray titles is to be sure to have a TV that can take advantage of all of these features. If you want the highest resolution available you will want full HD 1080p which this Sony has. Do you want a clear but fluid picture during fast action sequences? You get that too with Sony's advanced motion flow technology.

Each frame comes with exceptional color contrast and is as clear as possible using Intelligent Image Enhancer technology. If 3D is what you are interested in, all you need to do is plug in your IR emitter to your HD 3D LED TV, and sync it with your Sony 3D shutter glasses.

This is a great TV if you can afford it. If you are just browsing there is no harm, no foul, in waiting until the industry standard is more stabilized and price points begin to come down. Although you would be the person with the coolest Super Bowl party not to mention having this TV would just be a lot of fun.

You can find out more about the 3D TV and the new Sony HD3DLEDTV at our site.

Concrete That Cleans the Air

Emissions that are the result of burning regular fossil fuels (like the fuel in your car) are made up a massive amount of different compounds. Even if we are able to reduce the emission levels of one of these compounds it is a good thing and will help bring down the pollution created by driving. That is where the research done by researchers at Eindhoven's University of Technology in the Netherlands will become a formidable method to reduce the global ecological damage caused by cars that are on the road. They have developed a concrete that strips nearly fifty percent of the nitrogen oxides from exhaust emissions.

The concrete was developed in a laboratory and after extensive testing a one thousand square meter stretch of road was laid to test the concrete in a real test of its potential. The concrete works by stripping nitrogen oxides from the air and converting them into nitrate (a nontoxic compound) as the sunlight and concrete worked together to break it down. The nitrate is then carried away by rain and never seen again. So it not only turns a once toxic chemical into something benign - but using the forces of nature makes the problem virtually disappear.

It is assured by those who can supply the concrete that the cost incurred is not really much more than that of regular asphalt or concrete. In this regard it can be considered economically sound as well as ecologically. It can also be mixed with regular concrete and asphalt without jeopardising the structural integrity of the latter materials. It may just be an easy way for roads to do something extra besides protect a vehicle from unnecessary wear - it will also help reduce the environmental effect of having many cars spewing forth noxious fumes from their tail pipes.

SCiB Battery Technology

I really like the idea of electric cars. However, the current lack of support in the form of charging stations the poor performance in regards to range and recharge time is something that makes me wonder if the electric car is just a pipe dream in terms of usability. That is where Toshiba's SCiB battery technology comes in to smash any predetermined doubts you had regarding the electric car being unfeasible as a means of transport. Traditionally, it took electric car batteries over thirty minutes to charge (give or take a few minutes). The SCiB battery can recharge to ninety percent capacity in five minutes.

The buck does not stop there. The battery is touted to last ten years. That is not how long a single charge lasts - but how long the battery itself lasts before it will need to be replaced. This is good news for people who are ecologically minded. A battery can contain all manner of nasty materials that can do some serious damage to the environment. This is likely to be the battery that will finally make electronic cars possible and help reduce our need for (overpriced) petrol. It may also help companies finally start investing in electronic charging stations for vehicles.

There is no word on when this is likely to become available to consumers. However, it seems like it is something that it will not take long for companies who manufacture electric vehicles to start using in their production lines. It is something that will ensure that electric cars get the research that then need in order to make the technology feasible for the masses. I had some trouble finding out how far a single charge will carry the vehicle - if it is similar to that of the current electric vehicles that have been released then it may just be a winner.

Voraxial Separator - Mopping Up the Oil Spill

The Voraxial Separator is a device that uses centrifugal force in order to separate different liquids. Because gravity will have a different effect on different liquids due to differing densities - it is a great solution to separate different liquids without causing unneeded ecological problems. This technology is relatively new and it is relevant at the moment with the current oil spill in the United States of America. Enviro Voraxial Techology (the firm responsible for the device) has approached British Petroleum with their device and touted it as a method to mop up the spill without causing greater strain to the wider environment. Their idea is to mount the device on the decks of ships and then send the ships out into the middle of the slick.

The device will keep the oil for later disposal and pump out clean water. It has been shown to work exceedingly well during testing and the method will work for large volumes of sludge as long as the device is large enough. It has the capacity to pump mega litres of clean water out per hour (again - this depends on the size of the device) and the water is cleaned to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) standards. This means that any animals that happen to wonder into the cleansed water will not suffer the same fate as those who wander into the sludge.

It may just be the thing to help pull British Petroleum out of their predicament at the moment. This is if they are willing to invest in large enough processing plants that utilise the technology. Once the leak is plugged they still have to contend with one hell of a massive cleanup. They are already liable for prosecution from all manner of individuals who have been affected by the oil spill. Anything they can do to save face will ensure their long term survivability as a company.

Programmable Traffic Signs

With almost every country in the world trying to reduce its impact on the environment, the adoption of LED (light emitting diode) lighting has started to become apparent. Programmable traffic signs make use of LED lighting to transfer the work of three or four specific traffic lights into a single programmable display. For example, an intersection (depending on where you live) that makes use of traffic lights has a green, orange and red light for each direction. On top of this they will also have a light to say when you can walk across the crossing and a light that says you can't. In total that is twenty separate lights. You can quite easily cut that down to eight.

How this works is by having a single light per direction that depicts the colour to direct traffic and a single light for each direction that depicts whether or not it is safe to cross for pedestrians. The lights do not have to rely on tinged glass because they are LED lights that can display a colour based upon how they are coded. They can also draw symbols and are a lot cheaper to run than a standard light. For a large city that may have thousands of sets of traffic lights this can potentially save millions of dollars in the long term and will dramatically decrease their carbon foot print.

Programmable traffic signs can also be reprogrammed in the event the system needs to be altered. If they decide to suddenly change the colour of a stop sign to purple, there is no need to remove the light and replace it; it is just a matter of replacing a few lines of code to depict the colour they wish to show. This is essentially a time and cost cutting measure that can be utilised for the long term.
